On February 14, 2009, Helen attended
the Toastmasters International Board Meeting at World Headquarters ... it brought back memories of Board Meetings
past. It was just 31 years ago on Valentine's Day that the Board Meeting opened with a woman seated around the
table for the first time - Helen Blanchard! President "Dobbie" Dobson had a lovely red rose by her name
plate.

Toastmasters International Convention 2008 in Calgary!
Helen Blanchard was honored at
the Toastmasters International Convention 2008 in Calgary with a book signing for her entertaining and inspirational
new book, "Breaking the
Ice."
You may notice a few bruises and bandages as Helen truly had an "adventure" in Calgary. While riding
an escalator in the airport, she instinctively tried to rescue her falling carry-on bag. The bag was fine, but
as a result, Helen fell and bumped around on the moving stairs. After an ambulance ride to the emergency ward,
x-rays showed NO broken bones, however, there was extreme bruising. Following a day of rest, she attended a convention
event and fainted, falling again. Another ambulance ride (and getting to know people in the emergency ward). Testing
found she had lost so much blood from bruising that it caused a severe drop in blood pressure, thus the fainting.
Helen is now truly an "International" Toastmaster with Canadian blood.
Upon her return home, Helen's San Diego doctor commented that she's one "tough" lady. Those who personally
know Helen already knew that! Find out for yourself just how tough she is when you read her amazing story in "Breaking
the Ice."

With Mounties (Helen is part Canadian
now after blood transfusion!)
